ORR Builders built this facility in 2010 and in mid - 2024 ORR was contracted to perform an extensive remodel tenant improvement. Operations had to be moved temporarily into a building located in Palm Desert so the facility could be closed for construction.
There were some interior floor plan changes but the bulk of the work was finishes and new updated MEP systems. These systems included replacing two existing roof mounted HVAC units with new state of the art air handling units built by York specifically for veterinary clinics. These units required major structural upgrades to the roof structure prior to setting the units. Energy efficient LED lighting and lighting control system was installed as well as all new phone and data wiring and terminations. The existing medical gas system was removed and replaced with a new up-to-date system, which includes a complete medical grade oxygen generation and distribution. The existing scavenger vacuum system was replaced as well.
Finishes consisted of new level 4, smooth finish skim coat drywall finish to all walls throughout the building followed by painting. The floors were completely redone to include new epoxy flooring in the Lobby/Reception and public areas, carpet in the offices and polished and sealed concrete throughout the balance of the building. New acoustic ceilings were installed in the majority of rooms and areas with a few specialty rooms receiving smooth finish drywall ceilings. An extensive new millwork package, complete with solid surface tops was furnished, fabricated and installed with several locations accommodating animal cages. Wall treatments of tile, millwork and FRP were utilized in several areas.
The project required exterior ADA upgrades to the path-of-travel and ADA parking. ORR requested County building and Fire final inspections in advance of Animal Samaritans planned re-opening set for May 5, 2025.
ORR Builders would like to acknowledge and thank the Animal Samaritans team Tom Snyder, Athena Norton and Justine Ziembo, the design team Augustine Design Group Jillon Augustine and Lauren D’Agostini, Studio E.
